Attorney Bio

Katherine North O’Brien graduated from Ohio University, cum laude, in 2007, and received her law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 2011. She was thereafter admitted to the New Jersey and the New York Bars. She is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey and The United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit.

While in law school, Katherine completed a judicial externship with the Honorable Deborah L. Cook of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit during the summer of 2010. She made the Dean’s List several semesters in law school and was the recipient of a merit scholarship. She also received the CALI award for top grades in contract drafting and for her work on her student note. Additionally, Katherine was selected to serve as an Honors Legal Writing Fellow, where she assisted in teaching first-year law students legal research, analysis, and writing skills.

Katherine is passionate about helping people remove their criminal records and offering them a fresh start. She has seen past criminal convictions prevent people from getting out of poverty, advancing in their careers, and obtaining professional licensing. Moreover, for many, their arrests or convictions happened decades ago and no longer reflect who they are as a person. Thus, Katherine started Katherine O’Brien Law in an effort to enable people to seek justice and follow their dreams by offering affordable expungement opportunities.

Katherine has been practicing expungement law her entire career and has handled hundreds of complex criminal record expungements. She has also assisted in the drafting of briefs on expungement issues before the New Jersey Supreme Court.

Prior to starting Katherine O’Brien Law, Katherine worked in private practice litigating a variety of state criminal and civil cases in state and federal courts in New Jersey including criminal defense, medical malpractice, personal injury, and commercial litigation matters. She also concentrated in appellate practice in both state and federal courts in New Jersey.

Since starting Katherine O’Brien Law, Katherine now focuses solely on expungements, TSA appeals and waivers, name changes, and license restoration issues.
