Taking a trip overseas for an anniversary is a dream for many couples. For Kurt and Melissa Cochran, their dream turned into a nightmare within the span of a few minutes.
While visiting Melissa’s parents in London, the couple walked across the Westminster Bridge, enjoying the sights, when the unthinkable happened. A fifty-two-year-old British man driving an SUV mowed down a group of pedestrians, Kurt and Melissa among them. Unfortunately, Kurt Cochran was one of four to lose their lives that day. Along with other pedestrians, a police officer was also stabbed to death by the suspect, just outside of Parliament.
The driver, it was found, has a long criminal record and was investigated for extremism in the past, although he is not currently on a terrorism watch list.
Melissa Cochran suffered injuries from the ordeal, including a broken leg, broken rib, and various cuts and bruises. Family members noted that Kurt was among the first to be hit when the SUV was aimed at the pedestrians on the bridge.
Family and friends back home are among those reeling from the loss of a man who loved his family, music, and skateboarding. He was said to have been a great father, friend, and husband. Kurt ran a recording studio out of the home that he and Melissa shared, helping young musicians to hone their talents. Neighbors and community members say that his death will have a huge impact on the local musical community, especially for young and aspiring musicians.
