Truck Drivers On The Road Need To Worry About More Than Just Their Cargo

A commercial vehicle task force along with local agencies set up a commercial vehicle checkpoint for five consecutive hours on Tuesday Oct. 17, reported by The Press-Enterprise in an online article. Officers inspected 116 vehicles and issued 44 citations in Jurupa Valley, CA, a suburb community of Riverside, CA. The task force was set up at 7 a.m. at Etiwanda Avenue and Iberia Street, north of Highway 60. It was set up in aims to educate vehicle operators, the motor carrier industry and promote commercial vehicle safety, reportedly, but citations and fees can be considered tough love by most. According to the article, the checkpoint netted 18 citations for registration violations, 30 for various mechanical violations, three overweight vehicles, five with no proof of insurance, six with brake problems and three vehicles were placed out of service for being unsafe to drive and a dozen more for other reasons. There were other various locations in which this sweep was set up such as in Moreno Valley, Chino, Riverside, La Habra, Irvine, Huntington Beach, Fullerton, and elsewhere in Orange County.

Truck and commercial drivers are everywhere we look, and importantly they keep our economy going by transporting the goods they need in order to keep their business up and running. Nowadays, truck drivers blend in to the roadway scenery as we see them so often on the streets and freeways, driving along side us. Unless you drive a large vehicle like truck drivers do, you fail to truly know and understand how much work, as well as effort goes into their job.

Truck drivers need special licenses and certificates from the DMV and other transportation agencies to maintain their ability to drive and work. Enforcement stings like the ones in this article are aimed at keeping other motorists safe by making sure those drivers follow rules and regulations put in place for the overall public safety. Though these checkpoint sweeps are beneficial for everyday motorists, commercial drivers can face serious charges that can be costly to them including fines and even license revocation. It is important to do your research if you are commercial driver caught in a situation where your license could be in question. You want to be sure to find a team of DMV experts that can expertly represent you and your case to ensure the best outcome and importantly your opportunity to continue to drive and earn income.
