Quick Facts Regarding Driver’s Licenses in California

Any state that you are a resident of will require you to have a license which permits you to drive. Failure to obtain this license will land you in a lot of trouble with law enforcement and other governmental agencies should you be found driving without one. Thus, to avoid the hassle of justifying yourself in the discomfort of a police station, it’s important for those in California to obtain their licenses before driving. However, if you, like many others, are confused when it comes to the legal application procedure for acquiring a driver’s license within the state, we’ve put together the basics to help.

Circumstances Under Which You Aren’t Eligible to Apply:

A person who has any sort of past discrepancies, i.e. revocations, suspensions, cancellations, or any type of involvement in a legal conflict may be ineligible to obtain a valid driver’s license in the state of California. If you have had a driver’s license under your name prior to this one, you can check your driving record to ensure that you have no felonies or tickets issued under your name that may cause complications or make you ineligible to apply.

Types of Licenses

If you have never maintained a driver’s license under your name before, then it’s best to familiarize yourself with the different types of licenses that you can apply for in the State of California.

Class C License permits you to drive any noncommercial or regular passenger truck or car.

Noncommercial Class A License covers travel trailers, fifth-wheel trailers, and livestock trailers.

Noncommercial Class B License permits you to drive your own car, such as motor home or RV, but only for up to 45 feet.

Other types of driver’s licenses include Teen Drivers Licenses, Commercial Vehicle Licenses, and Motorcycle Licenses. To obtain any of the above mentioned licenses, you must contact the local offices of California DMV in order to apply for the respective license.
