Passengers Put Blind Trust Into Their Drivers

The Press-Enterprise recently released an online article in which a woman recently died after a car crashed into her as she was a passenger in a car, on the early morning of October 18th.  The crash was reported just after 1 a.m. on Mountain View Avenue and Base Line, the driver that hit the woman and then drove off but police soon caught up with him and were able to arrest him. Police records indicate he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run, both very serious criminal offenses in California. The woman was taken to the hospital due to serious injuries, but unfortunately she later died. Law enforcement is still looking into the incident to find out as much information as they possibly can to better understand all the relevant facts. The identity of the driver was not mentioned in the article.

As passengers, we really have little to no control over the car we are in and the surroundings and put trust into the driver to be able to safely get us to our destinations. Ride-sharing and groups of passengers in a single vehicle is very common here in California, but we often don’t give much thought to the ability of the driver to avoid disaster and keep us safe. Passengers are at will of their driver as well as other motorists on the road and that can be a terrifying thought when you mix the potential for serious and traumatic auto and car accidents. In the blink of an eye a passenger’s whole life can change and we want to believe we can trust others to drive us safely, but accidents can happen no matter how much one tries to avoid them. When a collision happens it can harm both the driver and the passenger, and the damage can be life changing and extensive. Even the best drivers are susceptible to the negligence of others on California roadways.

When accidents happen on California roadways, victims have rights and are entitled to compensation. In situations like this, if the victim is seriously injured a civil personal injury lawsuit can be filed for injuries and damages. If a victim dies because of an accident then the family can take on the case and file wrongful death claims. It is important for the victims or the victim’s family to do the proper and diligent research and find either a personal injury attorney or wrongful death attorney that can expertly represent their clients in court and with the insurance companies. An attorney that will dedicate their resources to their clients is one that will ensure the best outcome for a victim found in a situation that could be deeply damaging to one’s life. There could be life changes that are irreversible after an accident occurs, but that does not mean victims have to miss out on compensation for their injuries or loss of a loved one.
