Driver Dies After Slamming into Fire Truck at Accident Scene

Posted By Bohn Fletcher Law

Car accidents happen when we least expect them. Even worse, sometimes accidents end up causing other accidents. While most drivers know that they must stop and slow down when approaching a crash scene, it’s not always obvious that there is an accident right away.

Recently, one driver failed to stop or slow down and slammed into a fire truck that was parked nearby. This devastating accident occurred on Highway 4 near Antioch in Northern California on a late Friday night, around 11:57 p.m. It took place between Somersville and Loveridge Roads.

Details of the Wreck

The accident began with a parked fire engine with a ladder truck directly behind it. A firefighter was on the ladder at the time of the crash and luckily only received minor injuries. He could have been hurt much, much worse. It was the ladder truck that was struck, according to the Contra Costa Fire Protection Department. The fire marshal, Robert Marshall, spoke to reporters about the incident and was thankful his team member did not suffer serious injury.

Unfortunately, the SUV driver who struck the fire truck was pronounced dead at the scene. It is believed that he died on impact due to the severity of the crash. The California Highway Patrol will continue to investigate the details of the accident to determine exactly what happened to cause the crash.

Investigation Ongoing

The driver’s name will not be released until the investigation is complete and the family is notified. It is not currently known if alcohol was a factor or if the driver was simply going too fast to stop in time. It might even be that an unknown issue occurred. These details will help determine just who or what was responsible for the crash.
