Auto Glass Can Be Protective, But Also Deadly

Auto Glass Can Be Protective, But Also Deadly

The Press-Enterprise recently reported in an article about a woman injured by broken glass and other debris early Saturday, October 28th, after someone fired a gun into a car. Police officers responded to the area of 21st and E streets after receiving a report of a shooting around 1 a.m. Saturday morning. They found the woman, and took her to a local hospital to ensure she received the proper medical attention for her injuries. Medical personnel did confirm it was just flying pieces of glass that caused her wound and not a bullet. So with regard to the incident, the victim was lucky.

While driving on the roadways of the Inland Empire, drivers do not expect to be hit with flying pieces of glass, nor while walking down the streets of their neighborhoods. As citizens we want to trust in our cities, and expect them to be a safe home for us. We trust that behind the scenes law enforcement is at work, and more importantly that other citizens and or residents are just as mindful as us. The problem is, that it only takes one person, one mistake and or one bad decision or act of recklessness to change our life, or the lives of a family member instantly, but forever.

A piece of glass is something so minuscule when compared to a bullet, but it could be just as damaging when the circumstances permit. As our family sits on the porch, or our children play in the yard, we want to think that they are able to be outside without having to worry about a tragic accident happening like the one that occurred to that woman, but as we hear accidents like the one in the article take place, it seems almost impossible to feel safe and secure, even at home.

In an incident like the one discussed in the article, potential for injury was present not only for bystanders, but also for motorists passing by. By one small incident, a chain of events could have transpired costing serious injury, financial burden and even more drastic, lives. In situations where fatal injury can occur, wrongful death claims can be filed by the family of the victim.

When accidents and serious injury occur, the victims have rights. California allows for the victims of injury due to someone else’s negligence to file claims/cases and recovery damages. In situations like this, even if the perpetrator is in jail and awaiting criminal charges by the district attorney in county court, a civil personal injury lawsuit can be filed for injuries and damages as well as wrongful death. It is important for the victims to understand their rights and find a personal injury attorney that can represent their clients, but more importantly fight for their rights. An attorney that will dedicate their time, resources and skills is one that will ensure the best outcome for a victim found in a situation that could be deeply damaging financially, mentally and or physically.
